I am sure that you have seen the Chamber Ambassadors around town, or perhaps at a quarterly luncheon. You know that they attend all ribbon cuttings for new Chamber members, relocations, new locations, remodels and ground breaking ceremonies, just to name a few. What you may not know is that the Ambassadors formed over 40 years ago!
The Ambassadors started in the late 1960’s. At first, only men were in the club. They wore gold jackets with black pants. The Ambassadors were comprised of men that were the owner’s of their businesses. A few years later, John Buckner voted to let women into the club, and later was voted that you could be a representative of the business instead of the owner.
If you look up the meaning of Ambassador in the dictionary, you will find that it means “an official envoy, or an authorized representative or messenger”. This is exactly what the Ambassadors are, and then some.
Currently, the Cleburne Chamber Ambassadors are comprised of thirty-five members, all representing many different facets of business and industry in our community. The Ambassadors are broken up into four teams which are led by a team captain. The captain of each team is voted on each year. The captains are responsible for communicating upcoming events and team motivation.
Being an Ambassador requires dedication and time. There are events each week, sometimes as many as 4-6. The Ambassadors represent the Cleburne Chamber of Commerce, and are excellent stewards for the community. It is our job to welcome every new Chamber member, help them with their grand openings, and also tell the community about the business.
